Lactation bites are delicious, hearty energy bites with added health benefits! They are meant to help nursing moms increase their milk supply however don't let the name set you back, they can be enjoyed by anyone - they are delicious, packed with healthy ingredients and no, you won't start lactating spontaneously if you have them!

Breastfeeding is not always a smooth journey, it can be painful, challenging to schedule your day around feedings, pumping while baby naps, making sure your supply is enough for your baby and most of all it drains your energy. No matter your choice though, it goes without saying that fed is best! so whether you are breastfeeding or not, having something quick to grab is imperative - especially after a long night of feeding or dealing with a fussy baby you want to grab something as soon as you wake up to give you a boost!

These bites are very easy to prepare, all ingredients just go together in a food processor and you're good to go! no baking required and they can be eaten immediately. They are prepared with key ingredients that are said to promote lactation: dates, oats, brewer's yeast and flax seeds. Whether they work or not, these bites are packed with nutrients: protein, potassium, iron, magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, zinc etc. - these bites are healthy, satiating and are great for any time of day where you need an energy boost!


No-Bake Lactation Bites

Yields around 25-30 bites

Ingredients

1 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup ground flaxseed

1 1/2 tbsp debittered brewer's yeast

3/4 cup almond butter *

6 medjool dates, pitted

5 prunes

1/4 cup dark chocolate chunks

1/2 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 tbsp honey

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

shredded coconut for coating (optional)

* you can use any nut butter like peanut or cashew butter

Directions

  1. In a food processor, add all ingredients and mix until well combined.

  2. Transfer mixture to a large bowl or flat surface. Roll mixture into bite-sized smooth balls. Roll balls in shredded coconut if using.

  3. Bites can be enjoyed immediately or refrigerate in an air tight container for up to 30 days.
